Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?

Looking for a nice place to chill out while having some burgers and beers as comfort food?

Well, you’d probably find yourself in ‘fairy tale dreamland land’ with the Big Bad Wolf (BBW)- a 10-month old gastro-pub along Tanjong Katong. Unsurprisingly, Tanjong Katong is also home to excellent Nasi Lemak,  Zichar Store, British Fish and Chips and the list goes on. And so amidst all these competition, what makes BBW special?

Reasonably priced burgers and its refreshing fruity beer, are two key indicators to a good burger place, and BBW has just about that!

The Double Decker Burger (SGD18.50)

The Silly Girl decided to throw her diet into the air and order the ‘Double Decker’ burger which essentially was 2 freshly grilled beef patties, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, caramelized onions, bacon and cheese.  A simple burger – both in terms of looks and flavour, but definitely a value-for-money. What’s more, they are one of the few restaurants in Singapore, which got my order correct. Yes folks, they serve their patties ’medium rare’  patty and it was delightfully served brown on the outside, with a lovely hue of pink on the inside.

The patties were lightly seasoned (minced beef, onions, tinge of salt and pepper and possibly a bit of tenderizer) and succulently delicious. Serving size is a reasonable portion for an Asian diner.

Daen devouring his fries and meat... *GROWL*

And the Beers! !!

My beloved 'Suakoo' Friend taking a pic of the beers...

What is a good burger without washing it down with a nice bottle of beer (ever more appreciated on a hot Singapore Sunday). Ahhh, here is the 2nd unique selling point of Big Bad Wolf (BBW).

Fruit Beers Tester Set - 4 half glasses of peach, cherry, apple and rose beer... At S$12 only!

You see, BBW carries a good range of Lindemans Fruit Beers (among others) which are refreshing lambic beers brewed with real fruits - Apple, Kriek (Cherry Flavour) and Pecheresse (Peach Flavour). This afternoon’s beer tasting session saw 4 of Lindeman’s fruit beers, (including Rose, which is not found in BBW’s menu) for a token cost of S$12. Deliciously yummy, these 4 half sized glasses of fruit beers weren’t too sweet and definitely an alternative for non-traditional beer drinkers, especially the girls (well, it does taste like apple soda).

Bailey's Chocolate Tart

For desserts – Reggie ordered the Bailey’s chocolate tart which was quickly devoured by her. The cute little signature Big Bad Wolf logo was made of cocoa powder. And for S$5.50, this was a lovely end to this afternoon’s lunch.

With reasonable prices, no GST nor service charge, and friendly & attentive staff (Thank You Tim and Mary who made our stay extra special), we would definitely be back for more.

And Reggie summed it up the best – ‘ Loved the BBW burger, homemade iced lemon tea and would have used my hands to eat. Nom Nom Nom…”

Yum Factor : 8/10

Other recommended eats include the Guiness Lamb shoulder chop. Did I try it – NO. But was it good? Well I sincerely believe so, especially since SL and Reggie gorged the lamb chops down in record time… If they could digest the bones… I am sure the plate would have been totally cleaned out. Defintely delightful!
