With loving hearts and joyous song we sing to M.G.S. And tell the fame of that fair name for we can do no less. We hope we may honor bring, and heaven ever bless Our school, the fairest in the land, our own dear M.G.S.
I met up with the girls for dinner at the Old School this evening. This was my first time meeting up with them since graduating from MGS 14 years ago and where better to meet than our very own “Old School” at Mount Sophia? We had a good time reminiscing and laughing at the good old school days, our teachers, the classrooms and basically everything under the sun.Not surprisingly we haven’t changed much and congratulations to Evan, who’s on her way to No 3 and still looking as good as ever…
Will write up more about the dinner soon, but at this point of time-looking back, I am so glad to have been from an alma mater so rich in history and tradition… It just reminds me of the pride of being from Methodist Girl’s School!
The real contest is always between what you’ve done and what you’re capable of doing. You measure yourself against yourself, and nobody else.
Allie shared this quote this morning and seemed pretty apt for me. Since moving into my new enviroment, I’d been feeling less than comforted by my results, which that made me question my own capabilites.
But I’ve come to realise that the truth of the matter is knowing what I am capable of, and doing it. If I need to slug through the mud and come out alive, so be it. If I need time to understand the new enviroment to perform, then be it. I know my capabilities and what I can achieve. I just have to stay focused.
“生命裡總有些想不到的事情会发生,只要真正的愛一次也就足够了”
Tonight was the third time that I’d watched this movie (since it was introduced in 2005). And till this day, I’m still touched to tears by the storyline…
I am no longer the Emo Silly Girl, I just learn to appreciate my movies better…
I finally got toI finally got to sing karaoke this lunar new year holiday, having met up Allie, TM, P at Party World after my family dinner… Needless to say, I had enjoyed myself tremendously.
While singing, I found the version of Hacken Lee’s “高妹”, sung by Gigi Leung – who happened to be the song writer.
Nice fond memories….

Huge Prawns
Prawns are a must during Chinese New Year. Other than the fact that my family loves to eat prawns. Prawns, in cantonese also symbolises the meaning of “ 禧哈大笑” (which means loud laughters and joy). Looking at the sheer size of the prawn, I decided serve the prawns pan-fried with salt, and it did seem like the right choice, since the dish was cleared pretty quickly…

Kampung Chicken
A steamed whole chicken is also served during lunch as it symbolises completeness and prosperity.

Ok, I am never a fan when it comes to chopping the chicken, because 1) I dun have that much strength and it doesn’t help that my chopper is never sharp enough and 2) my skin is not “thick enough”. So I am down with a slightly swollen hand thereafter. I guess it’ll be better after I run it through cold water….

Steamed fish in Cantonese Style
A whole fish with its eyes and cheeks must be kept intac t. 年年有余, referring to prosperity and abundance every year, is what people aim for, when they serve this dish.

The feast of the day...
So the other 5 dishes were:
1) Waxed Sausages & steamed Arrowheads – In the past, arrowheads are eaten to symbolises a new addition of a baby boy in the coming year, but in today’s context, arrowheads are included in the meal to symbolise a growing family.
2) Abalone and Lettuce – Dual meanings of ’年年有余’ and ‘生财”, which means annual abundance through the growth of wealth in cantonese
3) Stewed Mushroom, Dried Oysters and Moss – This dish in Cantonese can be referred to as “发财好事” – Prosperity and good tidings, and hence this is also a reason why this dish is always served at all restaurants during this period.
4) Roast Pork – Because of the crunchy red skin, everyone on the dinner table is encourgaed to eat this dish as it symbolises “红皮赤壮” strength and good health for the person who eats it
5) Lotus Root Soup - Lotus roots carries the meaning of bonding and strong family ties, and hence is a favourite soup recipe which my family cooks on the first day of the lunar new year
In addition, I also learn that the rice jar at home will be kept full to the brim between CNY eve till the 2nd day of CNY. This is to ensure that the family has sufficient to eat and wear throughout the whole year.
